Author Manifest
In today's political climate we are forced to see the world through a small lens of reality.
In terms of my gender, my sexuality, my home life, and my dreams for the future- they are all taking shape in a collective showcase of work and creative endeavors that can best describe me as the person I am in my writing today. From poetry to art installations, I have seen a way to embody myself-- a kid who grew up on a goat farm and a young adult studying writing full time who hopes to move to the city with some of her best friends.
For a long time as a person, I felt there were only so many options on how I could live my life and express myself-- however over time this idea of what makes a person and what defines a 'text' has changed and become almost Undiagnosable. I write things that break the form, use metaphors to describe complex emotions, and play around with the concepts of ever-changing topics such as sexuality and/or mental health. It's a complicated world out there, and I try to capture that through the art of writing.
There is this idea that we have to live our lives a certain way, especially those of us who grow up in a small town in Northern New York. We think that we only have so many options to peruse, all falling under the 'labeled' workforces we are told about by our teachers and the world around us. Doctors, educators, politicians-- they all have defining qualities that make them... well definable. That's not what I wanted to do- I wanted to inspire people, I wanted to tell stories, and I wanted to enjoy the creative, weird and undefinable parts of myself and my life. However, that wasn't going to pay the bills, or at least that's what they told me.
Now I am a soon to be college graduate going out into the world with one mission- to dream. I want to dream big and loud, and part of that is through the media I consume and the books I want to write. From my debut novel, Forgetting Portside in the drafting stage and my minor taking shape in media management, I want to show the world what I am capable of (and I think you should do that too).
Overall, I want to entertain, I want to write, and I want to live-- something I think many of you might relate to.
So, if any of this resonates with you, then I think you found the right place.
Let's remain Undiagnosed together.
